St. Marcelline has served with the Appalachia Service Project, ASP,since the summer of 2000. ASP is a youth based ministry dedicated to serve needy families throughout the Appalachian Mountains. This region of the United States has some of the most poverty stricken areas of anywhere in the world.

Each and every year our teen and adult members bring back stories and memories of events and people that have changed their lives forever. We have traveled to Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia to help families that don’t have the resources or ability to make their own home repairs.

It has been said the ASP is a “relationship ministry with a little bit of construction on the side.” That can be misleading. Our groups have completed a variety of projects over the years, from repairing or replacing roofs to putting in new bathrooms, carpeting and reinforcing foundations. This ministry is open to all High School Students. One does not have to be a member of St. Marcelline, or be Catholic. The only criterion is to believe that safe and affordable housing is a right everyone should enjoy.

If you are interested in joining the St. Marcelline ASP Group contact Howard Grossman.
