As pastor of St. Marcelline, Fr. Denis is responsible for the spiritual and temporal welfare of the parish. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Fr. Denis entered the Benedictines following his graduation from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. After receiving a Masters of Divinity from St. Meinrad School of Theology, the seminary run by his monastery, he was ordained in 1978 and sent to the University of Pittsburgh where he received a Ph.D in Speech Communication. When he returned to the monastery, Fr. Denis became Retreat Director and then was appointed Assistant Professor of Homiletics at the Seminary. In 1985, he came to Chicago to teach at the Catholic Theology Union in Hyde Park on Chicago's south side. From 1986 to 1990 he was Assistant Professor of Speech Communication at DePaul University. In 1990, he joined the Archdiocese of Chicago and was assigned to St. Barnabas on the south side. Since then, he served at St. Victor (Calumet City) and St. Emily (Mount Prospect) before being named pastor of St. Marcelline in 1998. In addition to his work within the parish, Fr. Denis is the spiritual director to five people; writer for the ACP Publication Upturn and speaks at a variety of retreats and missions.

Rev. Sergio Romo:

Fr. Sergio joined the St. Marcelline parish community as Associate Pastor in July 2002. The oldest of seven children, Fr. Sergio was born and raised on the far Southeast side of Chicago. Due to his early interest in the priesthood, Fr. Sergio began his seminary studies in high school. He continued his studies at the Archdiocese's college seminary -- St. Joseph -- while majoring in Fine Arts and minoring in Philosophy at Loyola University. He was ordained a priest on May 22, 1993 after completing his studies at Mundelein Seminary. Before coming to St. Marcelline, Fr. Sergio's previous parish assignments included St. John Berchmans in Logan Square and St. Genevieve on the Northwest side of Chicago. He also served as a formation director and Director of Liturgy at the college seminary, St. Joseph. Fr. Sergio's interests include art in all its forms -- visual, theatre and performance -- and music of most kinds -- especially classical and opera. Other interests include traveling, cycling, gardening and cooking. He likes to kick back with friends and watch movies, have dinner or just hang out.

Rev. Paul Sims, C.R., Ph.D.

For more than ten years, Fr. Paul has been the Weekend Associate at St. Marcelline. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Fr. Paul was ordained a priest of the Congregation of the Resurrection in 1986. With a great love for teaching, Fr. Paul has served as a teacher and administrator at Gordon Tech High School and Archbishop Quigley Prep Seminary High School, both in Chicago, and at St. Martin de Porres High School in Waukegan. Fr. Paul was also stationed for two years at Our Lady of Loretto Parish in St. Louis, MO. For one year, he was on the pastoral team at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University of Chicago. The Provincial Superior of the Congregation of the Resurrection recently gave Fr. Paul a new assignment. This year, he will do vocation work and be director of the Mission Effectiveness Program of the province. In addition to this, he will be working on the Senior Living Project. Father Sims has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo, Ontario; a Master of Divinity degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis; a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum Development from DePaul University and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Loyola University of Chicago.

Rev. Warren J. McCarthy

Fr. Warren is St. Marcelline's Pastor Emeritus, an honorary title recognizing his significant contributions to our parish immediately preceeding his retirement. Fr. Warren was pastor of St. Marcelline from 1976 to 1997. During his tenure, Fr. Warren truly built the church we know and love today. He brought to life the Family Life Center and Samaritan Window Shrine, built an addion to the rectory and renovated the Church and Gathering Place. He was our stewardship pioneer, bringing Sacrificial Giving to the parish for the first time. He enthusiastically engaged in the spiritual life of St. Marcelline, working with the diaconate couples, marriage prep, catechumenate and the multitude of other ministries active in our parish at that time. Fr. Warren is now enjoying the glory of retirement, but looks back fondly on his time at St. Marcelline. "I would have chosen it over every other endeavor," he said. "Where else could you get a chance to spend so much time with God's word and God's people!"
