How do I get involved in one of the parish ministries?
There are a wide array of opportunities for people to use their talents
within our parish community. You can learn more about parish stewardship
opportunities by visiting the Parish Ministries
section of the web site or checking out our annual Guidebook and Directory
that was either mailed to your home or provided to you at a Welcome
Session. You can also find brochures for many of our ministries in Diemer Hall.
Every fall as part of our stewardship renewal, parishioners have the chance
to review a complete list of our ministries and identify any they would like to
participate in the coming year. However at anytime, you can contact the Parish
Administration Center at 847-524-4429.
What does it mean to be a Stewardship Parish?
Stewardship means caretaker. We are called upon as Catholics in our faith to care for one another, our church, our environment, our families and our universe. We do this by sharing our time, talents and treasures with our parish. Our parish in turn shares its time, talent and treasure with the poor of the world through service and financial support. The first ten percent of every Sunday's offertory collection is given to the poor.
Do you have kneelers?
Yes, we have kneelers in all pews except the first row.
I just had a baby, what do I need to do to have my child baptized at St. Marcelline?
Congratulations! What an exciting and momentous journey you are embarking on. We ask that you attend a Baptism Preparation Session prior to scheduling your child's Baptism. These sessions are held the second Tuesday of every month. At the session, you will receive guidance on the selection of godparents, what to expect during the Baptism service and helpful ideas for raising your child in the Catholic faith. To sign up for the next session and schedule your child's baptism, call the Parish Administration Center at 847-524-4429. We will need a copy of the child's birth certificate (either the hospital copy or the State certificate) and copies of both parent's photo IDs at least one week prior to the scheduled Baptism.
I was baptized Catholic but never received any other sacraments - what can I do to receive them as an adult?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program introduces the baptized Catholic and those baptized in another Christian religion to the teachings of the Catholic church and prepares them for the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. The program begins with a series of Inquiry sessions and culminates at the Easter Vigil when the candidates receive the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation for the first time. In you are interested in becoming a full member of the Catholic Church, call Mary Kramer at the Parish Administration Center at 847-524-4429 to inquire about this program.
I never baptized my child - can they still receive the other sacraments?
No, a child must first be baptized before receiving other sacraments. Depending on the age of the child, they would either be registered in our regular religious education program or be entered into our Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) program. Similar to RCIA, the RCIC program enables an un-baptized child or a child who was baptized but missed other sacraments to learn the teachings of the Catholic faith and receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Please call Mary Kramer at the Parish Administration Center to learn more about this program and determine where your child would be placed.
I just became engaged - what do I need to do to get married at St. Marcelline?
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! If you would like to celebrate your marriage here at St. Marcelline, we recommend contacting us as soon as you get engaged to schedule a date. Because we want your marriage to be blessed by God, we help you to prepare for this lifetime of commitment through our Marriage Preparation program. First, we invite you to an evening of information. Next, we assign you and your fiancé to a sponsor couple. A sponsor couple is a couple living in our parish who our pastor feels has a solid Christian marriage. This couple will work one-on-one with you as an engaged couple. They will meet with you three times, help you plan your wedding, attend your rehearsal and answer any questions you have throughout the process. Call our Parish Administration Center at 847-524-4429 to set your date and get started in our Marriage Preparation program.
How do I fill out a marriage affidavit?
Marriage affidavits are required for a Catholic marriage to be held in an Archdiocesan parish. Two witnesses who have known the candidates for marriage for most of their lives (preferably parents) can come to the Parish Administration Center to complete the affidavit Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Or, the witnesses can fill out an affidavit at any Catholic Parish near their home and mail the affidavits to St. Marcelline.
I am divorced and now am interested in filing for an annulment. Can you advise me where to begin?
The first step in the annulment process is to call our Parish Administration Center at 847-524-4429 for an application. Once you complete the application, you will need to mail it directly to the Marriage Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Chicago as noted on the form. From there you will be assigned a Field Advocate - someone who is trained in annulments in your area - who will arrange an appointment with you and guide you through the annulment process. A second Catholic marriage should not be arranged until your annulment has been granted.
I have a sick family member - how do I arrange for a visit from a parish priest, deacon or minister?
We are sorry to hear that your family is going through this difficult time. If you would like a parish priest, deacon or minister to visit your sick family member, please call the Parish Administration Center at 847-524-4429. Voicemail is monitored after hours and on weekends, so you may leave a message and a visit will be scheduled. If an emergency occurs at a hospital and you can not reach one of our priests, ask the nurses to call the hospital's Catholic chaplain for you.
I was in the hospital – why didn’t anyone from the Parish come to visit me?
Simply put, unless you tell us, we won’t know you are in the hospital and hospital
personnel cannot tell us.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) was the result
of the Clinton Administration and congressional healthcare reform proponents’ efforts
to reform healthcare. The goals and objectives of this legislation are to streamline
industry inefficiencies, reduce paperwork, make it easier to detect and prosecute fraud
and abuse, and enable workers of all professions to change jobs, even if they (or family
members) have pre-existing medical conditions.
The fourth objective of HIPAA – guarantee security and privacy of health information –
directly impacts St. Marcelline’s ministry to the sick. The guarantee of privacy
protects you from unwanted release of information about you. In addition, it does not
allow hospital personnel to divulge your presence in their facility without your
written permission.
So, if you are hospitalized and would like someone from the Ministry of Care to visit
you, you need to tell the registration or Emergency Room staff that you want your
Parish notified. Once you complete the consent form, we will be notified and a visit
will be scheduled. Please also be sure your spouse, children or caregiver are aware
of your desire to be visited, because if you are unable to make this request on your
own, these are the only people who can speak for you.
I have just lost a loved one - how do I arrange for a funeral at St. Marcelline?
We are sorry for your loss. To arrange a funeral at St. Marcelline, you first need to choose the funeral home you wish to use in the area. As you make arrangements with the funeral home, let them know that you wish to have a funeral mass at St. Marcelline and they will call the church and schedule the mass for you. A member of the St. Marcelline Bereavement Ministry will then contact you to set up a time to plan the funeral mass readings and music. We also offer a funeral luncheon for you and your family following the mass or cemetery service.
When can my child begin taking Religious Education classes?
